Angelos Syrigos

Angelos Syrigos, is associate Professor of International Law and Foreign Policy at the Department of International and European Studies at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Athens.

He graduated from the Law School of the National University of Athens in 1988. He continued for post-graduates studies in the Faculty of Law of the University of Bristol, England. In 1994 he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of public international law.

He has also worked as a Research Fellow at the Research Centre for International Law of the University of Cambridge and he was a Research Associate of Corpus Christi College of the University of Cambridge (1993-1994); a Legal Expert to the Council of Europe in two Cooperation Programmes on administrative reforms in the field of human rights protection in Azerbaijan and Montenegro (2000-2003).

He has published three books and several articles on Greek-Turkish relations, the law of the Sea, the Cyprus issue, the Balkans, minorities and migration.

He has served as

  • Secretary General of Population and Social Cohesion of the Greek Ministry of Interior (August 2012-April 2015)
  • Vice-president of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) (2009-2011)
  • Secretary for Intercultural Education and Greek Studies Abroad of the Greek Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs (2007-2009).
  • Legal Advisor to the Greek ministry of Foreigh Affairs (1999-2001 & 2004-2005).
  • Director of the International Olympic Truce Centre, a non-governmental organization included in the framework of the Olympic Movement

He is a founding member of the Greek Chapter of Transparency International, Vice President (2000-2007, 2016)

He is married with Dr. Eirini STAMATOUDI, lawyer, and they have three children.
